Coble Ranch

The Coble Ranch vineyard, located a couple miles from our tasting room, flanks the California Coastal Range adjacent to nearby Napa and Solano counties, in Winters Highlands AVA. Through the characteristics of the land, which is similar terroir to the warmer and dryer climate of the Mediterranean, fine red and white wines including Barbera, Malbec, Petite Sirah, Syrah, Tempranillo, Zinfandel, Albariño, Sauvignon Blanc, and Verdejo are produced.

Terroir can be very loosely translated as a ‘sense of place,' which is embodied in certain characteristic qualities, and is the sum of the effects that the local environment and microclimate has on the final product. At its core the assumption is that the land from which the grapes are grown imparts a unique quality that is specific to that growing site.

Never before cultivated, the rocky hillsides of the Coble Ranch were grazing land for sheep and champion rams for years. The eastern facing slopes have well-draining soils and the proximity to the gap provides a natural, cooling breeze to an otherwise warm climate, making the Coble Ranch an ideal location for our chosen grape varieties.

Berryessa Gap’s award winning wines bring regional winemaking distinction to the historic agricultural legacy of Yolo County.
