Tasting Notes: The 2013 Malbec is a playful wine and an aromatic bombshell. Delicious aromas of watermelon candy, lilac and a touch of toasty oak leap out of the glass and tantalize the nose, drawing you in for a taste. On the palate, it is a medium to full bodied wine that is rich in red berry and plum flavors. Its smooth and sexy tannins coat the mouth but never overpower, making the wine very approachable. It is a great companion to sweeter foods like barbecue and teriyaki, but is enjoyable on its own.
Winemakers Notes: I find that the Malbec grape is quite well suited for our unique microclimate here in Winters, CA. Year after year the grapes come in bursting with flavor and character, yet give rise to a very unique wine that cannot be found anywhere else. I try to let the playful fruit characteristic shine through in this wine and let the oak and tannins play a supporting role. Bring it with you on your next picnic!
