Fruit driven and focused, this medium-bodied wine is ruby red, light garnet in color. Starting with aromas of bright red fruits, fresh earth and cooking herbs it is complimented by tart briar berries with a hint of savory minerality that lingers in the background. The wine is full-flavored and supple on the palate, but not overdone. It opens with opulent flavors of spiced cherry, cranberries, red licorice, wild strawberry, subtle rhubarb, raspberry and pomegranate. These fresh fruit flavors are enveloped by an array of spices, perfume, nuanced violet and rose petal notes.
The flavors in this wine change as you sip. It's fun to notice the punchy fruit upfront and then the beautiful flavors, unique to this variety, unravel--sage, thyme, white pepper and briar fruit plus the savory hint of smoked meat and a mouth-watering zip of acid that Is reminiscent of blood orange. All kept in balance by delicate tannins and a satiny mouthfeel.
This wine has dynamic versatility and is easy to drink. It is difficult to find foods that do not pair with this wine. I hope you enjoy!
Ideal serving temperature: 52-58° Fahrenheit
The 2019 vintage was the best I have seen since I started working in wine cellars in 2005. It presented even ripening from virtually no heat spikes and concentrated flavors from the low yield (total clusters on the vine). I am very proud of this wine because it hits all of the marks that I want to achieve with the Salengo Wines: well balanced, distinctive, true to the variety and reflects the terroir the extraordinary vineyard site (The Coble Ranch). This wine tastes wonderful now but it will age and develop into a very elegant and beautiful example of Grenache.
