2019 DURIF
93 POINTS + CELLAR SELECTION - Wine Enthusiast
DOUBLE GOLD - San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition
93 POINTS + CELLAR SELECTION - Wine Enthusiast "This huge but well-balanced wine (labeled with the French name for Petite Sirah) shows plenty of muscle in its full tannins, full body and ultraripe flavors, but stays appetizing to sip. Good underlying acidity and firm but not drying tannins keep it lively and bode well for further aging. Best 2025–2032. Cellar Selection." — Jim Gordon
TASTING NOTES
Aromas of dark, plump blueberry and ripe raspberry with a hint of spice and cocoa. Nice balance between fruit and acidity on palate with boysenberry flavors. Full tannins and a lingering finish with a hint of mocha, dark spice and white pepper.
PRODUCTION NOTES
These grapes were harvested over two days. After small-lot fermentation, our 2018 Reserve Durif was aged in once and twice used French oak for 20 months. Our Durif is planted on the steepest hillside in our Coble Ranch Vineyard, increasing the flavor concentration in the grapes. This creates a bold flavor profile due to the increased skin to juice ratio which intensifies the tannin structure and color in the finished wine. 2019 was a smaller harvest resulting in extra extraction – extremely age worthy wine.
